Saudi King Abdullah died after illness

Saudi King Abdullah has died.Abdullah became king in 2005. He had been suffering from a lung infection. Abdullah was admitted to hospital.King Abdullah has died aged 90 after a short illness.

The declaration came in statement read by a presenter on Saudi state TV. Abdullah’s 79-year-old half-brother, Salman, has been proved as the new king.

Salman said: “We will, with God’s support, maintain the straight path that this country has advanced on since its establishment by the late King Abdulaziz.”

“We will continue adhering to the correct policies which Saudi Arabia has followed since its establishment,” he said .

“As a leader, he was always candid and had the courage of his convictions,” US president Barack Obama said .

The British prime minister, David Cameron, said: “He will be remembered for his long years of service to the kingdom, for his commitment to peace and for strengthening understanding between faiths.”
