Rafa Benitez has been confirmed as the new coach of Real Madrid. The former Liverpool boss has signed a three-year deal to take charge of coaching.
Rafa Benitez said:”It is a special, emotional day for me. I have worked for many years trying to be successful to be able to return here.” Madrid-born Benitez has spent the past two seasons with Italian side Napoli.
He joined Real Madrid’s coaching staff at the age of 26, going on to work as the under 19 and reserve team coach, and assistant manager for the senior team.
Madrid president Florentino Perez alleged Benitez was the right man for the job, hailing him as one of the world’s best coaches.
At domestic level, Rafa has won two La Liga titles with Valencia and an FA Cup at Anfield. Benitez is returning to Spain for the first time in over a decade after making a name for himself with two league titles in three years at Valencia between 2001 and 2004.
