10 people injured in mobile crane accident in New York City

10 people were injured in New York City when a mobile crane accidentally on Sunday. A crane crashed 30 stories onto Madison Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said:”Thank God, this incident occurred at an hour of the day on a weekend when there were not too many people around.”

According to a law-enforcement official the unit broke loose from the transfer system that was used to carry the cargo into the building.

Five people hurt in the incident were in vehicles that were in the street below, but fortunately the AC unit itself did not hit anybody. The incident occurred just before 14:45 GMT at 261 Madison Avenue.

Mr. de Blasio said “everything in the immediate area” was secure. The mayor described the incident as “very serious,” but he said it was fortuitous that the load fell “at an hour of the day on the weekend when there were not too many people around.”
